A Message from the Ministers and Teachers

The Unity churches of the greater Twin Cities are pleased to offer a schedule of Spiritual Education and Enrichment (SEE) classes for 2011.

For those on the ministerial or Licensed Unity Teacher path, it provides an opportunity to complete one-half of the required SEE courses in one year without the cost or time involved in traveling to Unity Village. For those who simply want to grow as they follow their own spiritual path, there is a wealth of classes to choose from.

Classes are listed by category and include dates, locations, teachers, and course descriptions. There is also a chronological listing in the center.

To register for a class, simply contact the church where the class is being held. Contact information is on the back of this brochure. The cost is $116 per class: $36 to Unity and $80 ($8 per credit; all classes are 10 credits).

We are grateful to the teachers who so generously give of their time and talent, and we bless you as you continue on your spiritual journey.

Unity North Church, Coons Rapids, MNInstructor: Carol Kniskern, Licensed Unity Teacher and Spiritual Leader
Location: Unity North
Date: Wednesday, September 7—October 12, 2011 - 7:45 PM

This course uses the term “Hebrew Scriptures” in place of the more commonly used term “Old Testament.” Overview of the Hebrew Scriptures introduces the rich history of the Hebrew Scriptures, known in Hebrew culture as Tanakh, and provides a framework for future study. Learners will explore the history and development of the Hebrew Scriptures through stories, exploration of events, and discussion of the perspectives from which the books of the Law (Torah), the Prophets (Nevi’im) and the Writings (Kethuvim) were written. The course identifies the main story lines and historical periods of the Hebrew Scriptures. It begins with the allegories of Genesis and traces the history of the Hebrew people from the call of Abraham through the Patriarchal period, the Exodus, the period of the Judges, the United Kingdom, the Divided Kingdom, the Exile, and the post-Exile period.

Unity North Church, Coons Rapids, MNInstructor: Carol Kniskern, Licensed Unity Teacher and Spiritual Leader
Location: Unity North
Date: Wednesdays, October 19-November 30, 2011 - 7:45 PM
(no class Nov. 23, 2011)

Overview of the Christian Scriptures explores the Gospels, Letters, History (Book of Acts), and Apocryphal literature (Book of Revelation) that comprise what is more commonly known as the “New Testament” of the Judaeo-Christian Bible.

Overview of the Christian Scriptures is not a course in metaphysical Bible interpretation. A primary purpose of the course is to develop an understanding of the Christian Scriptures’ meaning for the people to whom they were written. Overview of the Christian Scriptures is based on the premise that, whatever else the Christian Scriptures may be, they most definitely are the response of early Christian writers to both the person and the message of Jesus Christ. Understanding the Christian Scriptures as a Testament about Jesus Christ rather than a Testament of Jesus Christ frees us to appreciate and become inspired by the powerful faith of these first followers of The Way.

We are embarking on an exciting adventure to explore Truth, with Dr. H. Emilie Cady. Dr. Cady was a physician and metaphysician in the New Thought movement. The chapters that form Lessons in Truth are some of the very first metaphysical discussions published by Unity. This book is an important foundation to the understanding of Unity metaphysics.

The purpose of this course is to help students become familiar with metaphysics, as understood in Unity. Further, it will help guide students to discovering and implementing spiritual tools to express their spiritual freedom.
